Where the bead colours come from

The most important item on this page. Midi (5 mm) designs are matched to Perler’s solid colours, or to Hama’s if you pick Hama under advanced options. Mini (2.6 mm) designs are matched to Hama’s mini beads. The colour names and bag numbers are taken from each maker’s own store. Neither publishes colour values, so the colour each bead shows on screen is read from the maker’s own pictures: Perler’s photo of each colour, and Hama’s printed colour card. It is close, but it is a picture, not a measurement. Mixes, stripes, glitter, glow-in-the-dark, clear and translucent beads are not offered.

Maxi designs are not matched to any brand yet. Their key reads Colour A with a hex value, and no product code is shown for them, because none has been verified.

The shapes are outlines, not board tracings

Round, hexagon, heart and star pegboards genuinely exist, but their peg layouts differ between brands and sizes, and none of those layouts has been verified here. The circle, hexagon, heart and star offered by MeltZoid are therefore design outlines applied to a square grid. Do not assume a shaped design will land exactly on a shaped board you own.

Colour

Matching runs in CIELAB using CIEDE2000, which approximates perceived colour difference well, but your screen is not calibrated to ours and fused plastic changes colour as it melts — translucent and glow-in-the-dark beads especially. Fuse a small test before committing to a large piece.

Sizes, counts and boards

Finished measurements assume nominal bead diameters of 2.6, 5 and 10 mm and perfectly seated beads. Bead counts are exact for the chart as drawn and make no allowance for the ones you drop, misplace or melt badly, so buy a margin. Board counts describe how many boards the design spans, not how much of each one is filled.

No affiliation

MeltZoid is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Hama, Perler, Artkal and other fuse bead manufacturers. Perler’s and Hama’s colour names and bag numbers are theirs, and appear only to say which beads to buy.
